There is an old maxim:
Once is novelty
Twice is recognition
Thrice is impressment
Impressment meaning capture or control.
It was adopted by marketeers, ad agencies, monetizers—the usual suspects. It sounds fairly occult when you realize each ad will be shown at least three times during the timed usage interval.
